Composite bonding, also known as composite build-ups or composite restoration, is a treatment that can adjust the shape, size, colour or straightness of your teeth. It’s a great way to fill gaps between teeth, improving the overall aesthetics of your smile.
Composite bonding is also a great solution for chipped or broken teeth that may have occurred as a result of trauma. With a good oral hygiene routine and regular checkups at the practice, composite bonding can last for many years.
Great for nervous patients, composite bonding is a minimally invasive treatment, as only small adjustments to the surface of the natural tooth are made. The tooth is prepared by very minor filing of the surface, this is so the composite can bond correctly to the tooth. With other treatment options such as crowns or veneers, more of the natural tooth has to be removed, making bonding an increasingly popular treatment for anxious patients.
Once the composite has been applied to the tooth, it is cured with a UV lamp, then trimmed and polished to match the appearance of your other teeth. If whitening is also involved in your treatment plan, this is done prior to the bonding, so that the colour of the composite can be matched to your new smile.
